Following a police crackdown against a protest in Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, three supporters of the Awami Action Committee have been arrested: Tehseen Javed, Suhail and Fazal. Police raids are being conducted at the homes of other participants. We demand an end to this brutal repression!
The protest of 4 May was organised by the AAC and members of the Revolutionary Communist Party in Gilgit-Baltistan. At the forefront were daughters of imprisoned AAC Chairman Ehsan Ali. 60-70 people took part. After a march, activists established a sit-in that blocked the Karakoram Highway for around 12 hours.
After opening the road and preparing to continue their protest in the early morning, the police attacked and arrested the main leaders. An organisation representing the Lawyers of Hunza condemned these arrests in a press statement.
The Pakistan authorities are escalating their campaign of anti-democratic arrests. We must continue our campaign for justice!
Release Tehseen Javed!
Release Suhail!
Release Fazal!
Hands off the AAC!
