Thousands of teachers protested in front of Peshawar Assembly Hall on the call of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa All Primary School Teachers Association. Meanwhile, all primary schools across the province remained closed. Teachers’ demands are as follows:
- Issue notification for teachers’ upgradation
- Stop the plan to withhold pensions and impose taxes under anti-employee pension reforms
- Deploy class-wise teachers in all primary schools
- Make all teachers permanent and issue GP funds
- End privatization of government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
PTUS, while fully supporting all teachers’ demands, expressed solidarity with them and stood shoulder to shoulder in this struggle. Due to the teachers’ remarkable struggle, the government was forced to surrender and has temporarily announced acceptance of demands.
We congratulate Khyber Pakhtunkhwa All Primary School Teachers on their successful five-day strike and sit-in. This is certainly the result of teachers’ courage, bravery, and tireless struggle. This is our victory, but the struggle has just begun.
We believe that the ruling class has always deceived workers, therefore all teachers should be prepared that if the government breaks its promises, all teachers should unite and, along with employees of other institutions, move towards a general strike across the province.
