International Day of Action for Ehsan Ali a great success!

June 4th Day of Action banner

Yesterday’s co-ordinated International Day of Action for Ehsan Ali and other leading members of the Awami Action Committee in Gilgit-Baltistan was an immense success!

We have received reports of activity in Britain (London, Birmingham, Bradford), Mexico, Czechia, Switzerland, United States of America (Washington DC, Los Angeles), Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Italy (Rome, Milan), Sweden, Ireland and Australia! Protests have also been recorded in Karachi, parts of Sindh and Balouchistan.

When everything is said and done, we believe protests were held in around 20 different countries.

These reports have shown that, despite some of our campaign’s supporters being blocked from delivering letters to Pakistani diplomatic missions, or being prevented from holding a protest at all, 4 June was a huge success that demonstrated the power of international solidarity. This is our biggest weapon in maintaining the pressure against the repressive maneuvers of the Pakistani authorities.

The protest in Britain included MP and former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell, who spoke at the protest after having the door shut in his face by embassy staff!

As reported in a previous update, John McDonnell has also tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament, allowing MPs to express their support for our campaign! We therefore encourage all supporters in the United Kingdom to email their local MP to sign this motion.
