Former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell MP has tabled an Early Day Motion calling on the UK parliament to demand the release of Ehsan Ali and the other imprisoned leaders of the Awami Action Committee Gilgit-Baltistan.
This is a crucial opportunity to raise awareness of our campaign and to put pressure on Pakistani authorities to secure their release. The motion reads as follows:
“[T]this House expresses its grave concern at the arrest and detention of leading members of the Awami Action Committee Gilgit-Baltistan, including chairman Ehsan Ali, Nusrat Hussain, Mehboob Wali, Nafees Advocate and Mehar Ali , who have been been groundlessly charged under anti-terror laws and accused of inciting violence, charges that have been condemned as politically motivated; notes that Ehsan Ali is in critically poor health; and calls on the UK Government to raise with the Pakistani Administration its concerns at this abuse of human rights, which has been chartered by several international humanitarian bodies, and demand the release of Ehsan Ali and his fellow Awami Action Committee members.”
To help promote this motion, we urge supporters of our campaign in Britain to email their local MPs, asking them to add their signature!
