Workers and youth organising to combat high inflation in Kashmir

On September 16, 2023, a joint meeting of the Public Action Committees from across Kashmir was held in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir.

The meeting set the agenda for the ongoing movement against inflation.

It was decided in the meeting that a complete boycott of electricity bills will take place across all districts of Kashmir until demands are met. Public committees will be formed at all levels throughout Azad Kashmir to organize the public. Furthermore, the series of protest rallies and gatherings will continue along with the boycott of electricity bills. Active participation from all segments of society, particularly students and women, will be ensured in the movement.

In the meeting, three members from each district were elected, and a central committee for the Public Action Committees was formed.

Representatives from traders’ associations, lawyers, student organizations, and various political groups also participated in the meeting.

The meeting’s participants resolved to continue their united efforts until their demands for immediate subsidies on food items, including flour, an end to load shedding, tax-free electricity from Mangla Dam and Neelum-Jhelum projects, abolishing privileges for elites, reinstatement of student and workers unions, and other demands are met.
